How to report the crime?

If you have experienced or witnessed a crime, it's important to report it so the authorities can investigate.

You can report a crime in Sweden in a few different ways, depending on the severity of the crime and your situation.

For certain non-urgent crimes, you can report them online through the official police website, polisen.se. Crimes that can be reported online include:

  • Theft
  • Burglary
  • Burglary attempt
  • Credit card fraud
  • Parking damage
  • Vandalism
  • Theft or loss of an animal

For more serious crimes or if you require immediate police assistance, you should call the police directly at 114 14. Call 112 if the crime is happening now or the police need to be on site quickly.

If you have been assaulted or have visible injuries from another serious crime, you should visit a police station to report it. This allows the police to document any injuries and increase the chances of solving the crime.

Regardless of how you choose to report the crime, you should be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Your personal identity number (if applicable)
  • The time and location of the crime
  • A detailed description of what happened
  • Any witnesses to the crime
  • The make, model, and serial number of any stolen or lost items (if applicable)

Remember to contact your insurance company as well. For more information on reporting specific crimes, visit the individual crime pages on the Swedish police website.
